Ian Keefer The Fans of the Man who created the Answer               Figure 1 Douglas Adams (Betcher) In 1978, the entire world of science fiction and humor was changed forever by one little radio broadcast on BBC Radio 4. This little radio broadcast was called Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by the British satirist and genius Douglas Adams (see Figure 1). Adams then took his cult broadcast and made it into a five- part novel series. This series of books have been made into countless tv shows, movies, novels, and even a holiday or two. Douglas Adams may have sadly passed away in 2001 but the legacy of his masterpiece has never left the pop culture bubble. One of the most important acts of fandom is how much famous and non-famous authors have added to the literary canon. Like I said before, Douglas Adams wrote five novels in the series and then tragically passed away. After his death, another author emerged with the sixth installment of the series. ...

SPNFamily The CW’s television show Supernatural has had a dedicated fan base since the beginning of the show. Supernatural is about a pair of brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, who travel across the country tracking and hunting monsters and demons. They are often helped by an angel, Castiel, as well as many other characters along the way. The show, which began in 2005, has recently ended on its fifteenth season. There are many ways that the Supernatural fandom, or as they call themselves the SPNFamily, remain active in their support of the show. The most common of these being writing fanfictions, which are fictitious stories written by fans about the characters and events of a show. One of the main themes throughout fanfictions for Supernatural is to “ship”, a term meaning to imagine or create a romantic relationship between two characters, Dean and Castiel. Because of this common theme, the writers of the show did end up making this happen, but not until the show was almost over. As...

Vampire Diaries is a show about a bond between two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon who moved back to their hometown to go to high school for the 20th time. During this time Stefan falls in love with a girl who happens to be the same gir...
