Chloe X Halle
This sister duo ‘Chloe x Halle’ achieved stardom by doing musical covers of popular songs, notably, Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts”. Their fanbase is rather unique as it is composed of millions of fans from other artists and musicians, such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Smith, Adele, Rhianna, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Nina Simone, BTS, and Drake. Because they performed so well on the covers, they garnered the attention of many of the “fandom” fans of the artists they did covers for. Beyonce’s “Beyhive” and Arian Grande’s “Arianators” openly championed and promoted their support of the rising R&B duo. Their youtube followers promoted their popularity on others. The sisters do still do covers but not as often. The first time I saw Chloe and Halle on social media singing was in 2011. They did a cover by Beyonce's song "I am Here" on youtube. When I heard them singing. I know that they would make it big one day. But they need some work before they get there. The past ten years revealing their gift for creating keening harmonies and genuine musical moments that showcase their expansive range. In 2013, I hear their soulful rendition of Beyonce's song "Pretty Hurts" it gave me chills and I knew they were going to blow up. That same year they caught the attention of the mogul's Parkwood Entertainment.
Chloe and Halle's song called "grown" was my anthem throughout high school and college. when I turned 18 This song made me think am I really grown. The answer was no. But now the answer is I’m grown-ish because of the day that I start living on my own and being more independent. That would be the day. This song is also the theme of the spin-off show "grown-ish".(figure 1 0:00-2:46 min; gives a clear explanation of the song and the album.)
The sisters are not just singers, they are also actresses. Their first theatrical debuts consisted of the movies “Joyful Noise” and “Let It Shine” as gospel singers in a church choir. Both singers practice the Christian faith and were raised in the church and in their church choir. The director of their two first films sought them out to star in the films because of their backgrounds. Halle Bailey, one half of “ChloeXHalle said to a reported that they were “Gospel - raised”, which was one of the main reasons they naturally gravitated towards the roles. It was their acting performance in those movies that set them on a trajectory of television appearances and other notable cameos, such as opening for Beyonce at one of her concerts.
The fans
Chloe x Halle fans were initially referred to as “Bailiens”, which is a play-off of their last name, Bailey. In April of 2020, the duo did a poll via social media, asking their fans to chime in on what they wanted to be referred to as, and the options were “Bailiens” and “Sirens”. The poll voted in favor of “Sirens”, which the duo has referred to their fans as of late. The uniqueness of their fandom is directly related to the way they have accumulated stardom and success...leveraging social media. The traditional way of gaining fandom always relied on the radio, television, and Hollywood. The sisters are role models, inspiration, and so much more to many young women.
