The Bronx Bombers

Dating all the way back to the early 1900's, the American baseball team the New York Yankees have been one of the largest fandom's in baseball history. They have a long history of winning, constructing a successful and respectful organization, maintaining good sportsmanship, and most importantly having the best fans in baseball. Once becoming a Yankees' fan, that is something that stays with you for life. Loyalty is everything with these fans and it is very hard to take that away.      Fans wearing pinstripes with pride An exciting feature to the Yankee's is their pinstriped home uniforms. Only 6 out of the 30  major league baseball teams wear pinstripes which makes the team and their jerseys unique.   According to the nypost " The pinstripes were first added to the  team’s jerseys in 1912 when the team was still known as the  New  York Highlanders. But after a  102-loss season, the stripes were  ditched for the next ...

Chloe X Halle

Image
This sister duo ‘Chloe x Halle’ achieved stardom by doing musical covers of popular songs, notably, Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts”. Their fanbase is rather unique as it is composed of millions of fans from other artists and musicians, such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Smith, Adele, Rhianna, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Nina Simone, BTS, and Drake. Because they performed so well on the covers, they garnered the attention of many of the “fandom” fans of the artists they did covers for. Beyonce’s “Beyhive” and Arian Grande’s “Arianators” openly championed and promoted their support of the rising R&B duo. Their youtube followers promoted their popularity on others. The sisters do still do covers but not as often. The first time I saw Chloe and Halle on social media singing was in 2011. They did a cover by Beyonce's song "I am Here" on youtube. When I heard them singing. I know that they would make it big one day. But they need some work before they get there. The past ten years rev...

Picture of the group "Twice"  Twice, the nine member Korean pop (better known as K-pop) girl group that debuted in Korea is slowly but surely crashing into the states and stealing the hearts of Americans (including mine). Twice debuted on October 20, 2015 with their EP "The Story Begins." Their feel good, happy, girly songs have helped them over these past six years amass quite the fanbase and following. I got into them and their music senior year of high school but have grown to be a more dedicated fan in the past year or so. I've joined their fanbase which they've bestowed the name of "Once."  Once is a very serious and devoted fanbase.  The Instagram ( @twicetagram ) dedicated to the group has a whopping 21.8M followers as well as the Twitter which has 9.2 million followers. You would be surprised, despite Twice being a girl group and producing mainly upbeat bubbly songs; Once is dominated by "fanboys" instead of women. Around 59% of O...

The Star Wars Fandom

The Star Wars Fandom      Star Wars is perhaps one of the most popular and successful franchises of all time. Even if someone doesn't know much about Star Wars, the name is still recognizable and exposure to some sort of Star Wars media is almost inevitable. The Star Wars franchise is a collection of movies, TV shows (Figure 1), comics, and videogames that all take place in a galaxy far, far away and tells a connected story over a long period of time. The main storyline is referred to as the Skywalker Saga, stretching through nine movies in order from episodes one to nine, telling the tales and struggles of the force wielding Jedi, Sith, and Skywalker family. It's popularity exploded in 1977 when the first ever Star Wars film, A New Hope, debuted in theatres and kickstarted the Skywalker Saga. Despite the initial low expectations and many issues while filming, A New Hope ended up being one of the most successful movie releases to date. As more Star Wars movies and shows...

The participants in this fandom are broken up into many segments, the main subsets of weightlifters are; Bodybuilders, Powerlifters, Olympic weight lifters and Gym Bros. Powerlifters and Olympic weightlifters both have the goal of being lifting as much weight as possible, however, the lifts they perform are different. Gym bros are similar to bodybuilders in that they lift for vanity's sake but they are also characterized by their need to boost their ego and thei...
